The Barking Frog In Manly, Sydney, Australia

The Barking Frog in Manly was an institution for 5 years. For locals of Manly on a Sunday night, this venue was the place to be. The music was the driving force behind the night and it’s what made people come back for more every week. Even in Winter huge queues formed outside the doors. The capacity of the venue was officially around 70 people, however, at times there was more like 100 people, all heaving to the funky house classics from Hed Kandi and the like. Mark Olsen was on the Decks, yours truly, Scotty Sax was on the sax and for a long time we had different vocalist each week until settling on Michelle Martinez.

The music was only part of the appeal. The team working at the frog were amazing! There was a real sense of family and camaraderie. Owner/Managers Rod Colligardo and Elise McSweeny had a knack of making everyone feel welcome from the moment they set foot in the place. Add to that, some of the sexiest and talented bartenders known to man and recipe was complete.

I often bump into people who used to go to the barking frog. When the subject of the Frog comes up, it feels like we are talking about a lost relative. It’s a shame that all good things must come to an end. 5 years is a long time and they were truly some of the best musical nights of my life.

I miss those days!!!

For The Love Of Funky House

I know a lot of people hooked up, got married and now have kids as a result of the Barking Frog. Our music was the catalyst for love, or at least lust. How awesome is that! My mum would be proud!

Till my next installment….. Much Love!

Scotty.
